Queens (or Kings) of the Stone Age

OK, did we mention that there are horses roaming free all over the island of Hanga Roa (including on the roads)? Or that there are no street lights on the island?! Or that many young islanders think it’s cool to ride their scooters and motorcycles without their lights on, including while they are coming home from the bars?!!! Now you have the mental scenery which was playing out as we left our hotel in the total dark to go catch the sunrise over Tongariki (a mere 45 minute drive on a winding coastal road from our hotel).

But, … it was all worth it!!!!!!!!
